Everything we currently “know” about pre-Columbian Amazonian civilizations is drawn from a tiny fraction of the total landscape. Here is a peek into an un-surveyed section of the Amazon basin, it is an area about the size of Austin Texas.
I contacted several providers attempting to purchase high-resolution images of the area, but the commercially available resolution was either the same or worse than what Google Earth provides.
For reference and to compare known semi developed jungle ruins on Google Earth to these possible ruins go to these links. You see similarities in the Mexico, Guatemala & Brazil sites as far as straight lines, right angles, foliage disruptions and shadows.
El Mirador in Guatemala
Here is what you can't see in satellite images in Calakmul but can with LiDAR.
Here also is LiDAR from Mirador, and wow does the jungle hide things. Imagine what could be hiding under this site's foliage. More Mirador.
